Newton Village tenants stay busy in their community and the greater Newton, Iowa area.
Tenants celebrated the 2024 Olympics with Olympic-themed activities. They also hosted a Summerween party, with watermelon carving taking the place of pumpkin carving. Staff brought fair fun to the community with carnival games.
Several tenants attended the Jasper County Fair in Colfax, Iowa. They especially enjoyed walking through the animal barns and viewing the exhibits.
Tenants also visited the Iowa Flower Farm to experience nature’s beauty firsthand.
Newton Village regularly schedules outings using a 14-passenger bus and a van.
Staff ask for excursion ideas and residents make requests; such as going out for ice cream or coffee, going fishing in the warmer months and viewing Christmas lights in the winter. Other outings have included museums, baseball games, the zoo, casino, a pumpkin patch, state parks, county parks, community parks and gardens.
“We like to try to do a variety of trips throughout the year to accommodate the wide variety of interests of our tenants,” says Michele, the activities director.
Oftentimes, the driver takes the scenic route through neighboring communities. Even a trip to Wal-Mart often involves two different routes so residents can see as much of the town as possible.
“It’s fun to hear the comments throughout the season of exchanging conversations of the crops; ‘so and so lives there;’ and ‘look at the grass getting green,’ ‘look at those pretty flowers,’ ‘the leaves on the trees are looking like fall,’ ‘look at that big dog’ taking a walk with its owner, etc.,” Michele says.
Conversations continue with staff and peers following the outings, adding to the experience of all involved.
We are proud to offer these life-enriching activities for those who call Newton Village home.
