Deficiency-Free Again in 2025

Newton Village proudly announces its Assisted Living community has achieved another deficiency-free survey from the Iowa Department of Inspections and Appeals (DIA) in 2025. This marks the third time in four years the community has received this prestigious recognition, solidifying Newton Village’s ongoing commitment to high-quality care and a nurturing environment.

Thorough, unannounced surveys assess the quality of care and services a community provides. The most recent survey included an evaluation of Newton Village’s Assisted Living program. In previous years, the community also earned deficiency-free designations for its memory care and health care center in both 2022 and 2023.

Only a small percentage of providers in Iowa achieve a deficiency-free survey, the highest score an assisted living community can receive. It signifies full compliance with all regulations and showcases excellence in caregiving practices.

“A deficiency-free status provides peace of mind, assuring families that their loved ones are receiving top-quality care in a supportive environment,” says Newton Village administrator Dan Donohue. “It’s one of the clearest indicators of excellence and underscores our commitment to compassionate, individualized care.”

“Achieving three deficiency-free surveys in the last four years is a testament to our purpose of caring for others,” Dan says. “While providing care is of the utmost importance, ensuring that tenants feel comfortable and are nurtured in a supportive environment is equally essential.”

In other words, Newton Village is carrying out Cassia’s mission statement to “Foster fullness of life for older adults in the spirit of Christ’s love,” and it shows.

To celebrate this accomplishment, Newton Village hosted a staff recognition event honoring team members who made this achievement possible.

“Our success year over year comes from the strength of our team,” Dan says. “We have many longtime team members who care deeply about Newton Village’s reputation and the well-being of our tenants.”

With a focus on compassion, consistency and community, Newton Village continues to set a high standard for senior living in Iowa; one rooted in excellence and sustained through the care and commitment of its people.
